Dear Friend,
I'm always amazed where my travels take me and the people I meet as a result of playing sports and drawing.
I have worked with many successful coaches, amazing marketers and business men and women. Yet to work with "The Millionaire Maker", Dan Kennedy, was an experience all its own. Dan is uniquely different, to say the least. Making him into a cartoon character was easy, comparatively speaking. The more character and personality the person has, the easier it is to illustrate them, typically.
It was June 16th, the day I left my corporate job. I drove home not knowing which project I'd tackle next. I was excited however to finally be in a position to commit 100% of my energy to my business dreams, and not to someone else's. After all, if we are going to make someone rich, why shouldn't it be ourselves, eh?
I quickly understood that one day working for someone else is one day too many.
As I pulled the car into the driveway, I noticed something lying on my front doorstep. I got out and walked toward it, seeing a FedEx envelope lying flat on the ground. I ripped it open and discovered a personal letter from Dan Kennedy. The man who is virtually untouchable and whose daily consulting rate is more than most people make in three months, this man was writing me a letter inviting me to illustrate his next book. And as they say, the rest is history. Pretty ironic how my first day as an entrepreneur led to the most lucrative job up to that point.
Anyway, I was extremely proud to illustrate Dan's new book as Dan is someone whose work I've followed since 2002. The first book of his I purchased was "The Ultimate Secret" and the first course I bought was "Magentic Marketing." From the very beginning, I noticed Dan's use of cartoons in his books, his newsletters, on his website- literally everywhere. He has always used cartoons to market his persona. I often thought how cool it would be to work with him.
And here we are.
Not too many people can say they have worked with Dan Kennedy on a project. Very few can say that they have cartoons published in a Dan Kennedy book. Fortunately I can say both.
Dan was incredible to work with. One of the things he said after we wrapped up the first round of sketches was, "I wish the entire book had gone this smoothly and fast."
I cant take much credit for the cartoons though. They were Dan's genius
coming through with subtle additions from me here and there. Basically, I crafted images of his outrageous detailed concepts and text bubbles. I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did creating them
Check back in a week for the next AdToon posting.
